HOW RESILIENT IS THE NETHERLANDS IN 2025?

Sustainable employability: make it measurable

Een groep mensen zit aandachtig in een kamer met grote ramen en hangende rieten lampen, terwijl twee personen aan de voorkant praten en gebaren maken over manieren om met stress om te gaan.

"How are you?" is perhaps the most frequently asked and least really answered question in our lives. Because we may ask the question just out of politeness. Nor do we know if the person asking the question to us really wants to know the answer.

From an employer perspective, the question "how are our employees doing?" is a very important poll to predict absenteeism, attrition and turnover.

This all has to do with the sustainable employability of employees, or keeping people employable until retirement. To ensure that employees are sustainably employable, it is important that employees stay healthy and vital, enjoy their work and have the skills to do their jobs well.

The resilience monitor: measuring is knowing

It has often been researched why people enjoy themselves at work. And then relationships at work with supervisors and colleagues are at least as important as working conditions. In fact, attention to each other and appreciation from the supervisor play an important role.

At Team Heartbeats, in addition to the above developments over the past few years, we are also seeing an increase in workload and a decrease in "time for a real conversation." For these reasons, we developed the Resilience Monitor, in which employees fill out a short survey about how they are doing through questions about the five elements of resilience. These elements are: support, meaning in life, positive emotions, coping with adversity and physical condition.

Results are reported anonymously at the team, department and organizational level. This allows us to recognize patterns and take targeted actions to improve resilience. In addition, at the individual level, you can indicate in the survey whether you need a confidential "real conversation" about your personal situation. This makes the step to action for the employee accessible and the effectiveness of an intervention for the employer enormous.

Implementation of the Resilience Monitor in practice

Implementing the Resilience Monitor is an investment in the health, well-being and employability of your team. Moreover, there appears to be an additional benefit and that is that when the survey is sent out, with the proper explanation, there is a positive trend. Think of it as a "stone in the pond" with the waves that follow. The realization from employees and manager, that their well-being is actually being addressed, gives hope. And that action is being taken from within the organization to address this holistically, that real energy is being put into it, creates more positivity.

Sustainable employability

Conducting an employee survey is often costly. Think of an employee satisfaction survey (MTO) or a periodic medical examination (PMO). And it also takes a lot of time to implement and follow up. We have overcome this with the Resilience Monitor by automating it and keeping the costs so low that a year of using the Resilience Monitor (a true replacement for the PMO), costs less than a cup of coffee per employee.

By periodically checking the resilience of employees, we can proactively respond to changes and challenges. It is a continuous process of learning, adapting and improving. This enables organizations to grow and adapt to the changing world around us.
