The Impact of Compliments: An Introduction to the Energizer
At Team Heartbeats, we see compliments as essential building blocks for a resilient and connected team. That's why we developed the Energizer "Compliments. It is a simple, yet powerful tool to increase positive energy in your team and strengthen psychological safety. Getting a compliment, boosts one's sense of happiness and self-esteem and a compliment triggers the production of dopamine in the brain. This gives you a blissful, positive feeling. Compliments are little gifts for your psychological health: Aldus Beate Volker (Sociologist and Happiness Expert).
The implementation: how to implement the Energizer Compliments
It's time to put the Energizer "Compliments" into action! The implementation is simple. Each team member sticks an A4 sheet on his or her back with a peg. A stack of post-its is handed out. The assignment? Write down compliments addressed to your colleague. If you don't know someone very well, base it on what you have experienced in the past 90 minutes or since you have been working together. The goal is to make sure everyone receives compliments. The process of giving and receiving compliments will unleash a wave of positive energy in your team. Ready to get started? Keep the compliments coming! Tip: Turn on some music let everyone walk around the room. This way you will meet new people each time and get new inspiration for compliments.
Giving a compliment also gives you something. Many people enjoy giving a compliment. But receiving it, really receiving it, is a second. Now see if you can consciously receive compliments in the next 3 minutes. Ask someone to take the card off his or her back and read them quietly and consciously.
